This workshop supports educators in delivering accurate, age-appropriate, and inclusive instruction by incorporating information about intersex variations and natural differences in how bodies develop.
Sex education often relies on simplified, binary explanations of human development that can leave some students feeling unseen or confused. This workshop supports educators in delivering accurate, age-appropriate, and inclusive instruction by incorporating information about intersex variations and natural differences in how bodies develop. Designed for health educators, school staff, and curriculum leaders, this session focuses on practical strategies for strengthening existing sex education lessons. Participants will explore how to present information about natural human development in ways that reflect biological diversity, use clear and respectful language, and foster classroom environments where all students can engage without stigma or misinformation. The workshop emphasizes alignment with core educational goals: scientific accuracy, student wellbeing, and effective communication with families. Educators will leave with the tools needed to more confidently address questions related to bodily diversity/intersex traits, adapt current materials to be more inclusive and affirming of intersex traits, and support all students in understanding their bodies and the diversity of human development.

Associate Executive Director at interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth
Bria Brown-King (They/She) is a Black, queer, non-binary, and intersex person. Bria is the Associate Executive Director at interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth. Bria got their start in intersex advocacy in 2018 as an interACT Youth Advocate. In 2019, they became the first openly intersex person to speak about intersex issues on the steps of the Supreme Court. In their current role, Bria facilitates education on intersex issues, works to close the gap in intersex-affirming research and data collection, and serves on multiple advisory boards, representing intersex people nationally and internationally.
